Top 10 Dow Dividend Companies To Watch For 2014

Shares of Edward Lifesciences (EW) were climbing as high as 15% in Monday morning trading, after a federal court late Friday sided with the firm in its patent infringement lawsuit against Medtronic(MDT). The decision stipulated an injunction against the sale of Medtronic Transcatheter valves, although the firm plans to appeal the ruling. (Medtronic, by contrast, was falling 4.2%.)

Analysts were weighing in on the decision today. Canaccord Genuity Jason Mills and Jeffery Chu reiterated a Buy rating and $84 price target on the stock, calling the court victory surprising and important:

While we believe EW has a better chance than we previously thought of being granted a permanent injunction against MDT, we still expect EW to ultimately cash in via other forms of equitable relief in lieu of a final injunction: (1) lump-sum future damages; and (2) continuing royalties. Importantly, none of these potential outcomes are factored into our forward model.

What more, EW will have at least one more shot at winning further concessions from MDT, as EW filed a motion seeking a permanent injunction against MDT following a mid-January finding that MDT willfully infringed EW Cribier TAVR patent. A jury awarded EW $393M at that time in this case. We had expected this award to be tied up in appeals for several years; however, EW could use its increased leverage to push MDT to pay sooner.

Hot Industrial Disributor Companies For 2015: ENI S.p.A. (E)

Eni SpA, an integrated energy company, engages in the exploration, production, transportation, transformation, and marketing of oil and natural gas. The company also involves in the production and sale of electricity; refining and marketing of petroleum products; and production and sale of petrochemical products and hydrocarbons. In addition, it engages in the offshore and onshore hydrocarbon field construction. Further, the company offers offshore and onshore drilling, and offshore design and engineering services for oil and gas companies. It has a strategic partnership with Gazprom for the joint development of projects in the upstream oil and gas markets. Eni SpA operates in Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania, and the Americas. The company was founded in 1953 and is headquartered in Rome, Italy with an additional office in San Donato Milanese, Italy.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Tyler Crowe and Aimee Duffy]

There is a lot of buzz over recent energy activity in Sub-Saharan Africa. With Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE: APC  ) and Eni (NYSE: E  ) making large gas finds off the coast of Mozambique, several majors are now looking to get in the game as well. BP plans to spend $540 million over the next five years to develop a part of this gas field that could hold well over 100 trillion cubic feet.

    Eni (NYSE: E  )

    91,000 10.0%

Of the four companies listed, Apache has the most to lose. Not only is Egypt the largest producing country for Apache, it also represents 27% of the companies worldwide production revenue, so any sustained period of uncertainty could drastically hurt Apache's bottom line. So far, BP has pulled expatriate staff from the country, but no company has announced a shut down of production or a full withdraw from the country yet.

Eni (E) is an authentic cash cow for its shareholders. I believe the company will be able to sustain a greater than 6% cash dividend yield in 2014 even when the company's estimated 2015 free cash flow (FCF) yield is at just 4%. Asset sales as well as high oil prices should help the company meet its capex requirements and to continue giving back cash to shareholders through dividends. The recent sale of its stake in Sever Energia to the Novatek-GazpromNeft Joint Venture represents a clear hint into the company's strategy. After all, Eni's portfolio has several high quality disposal candidates which could attract the industry's interest – the first disposal candidate that comes to my mind is the remaining 8% stake Eni owns in Galp. The Italian oil and gas leader, which is held by Tom Gayner, sells for 12.5 times 2014 earnings and 5.5 times EV/EBITDAX.

EOR isn't the only sign that production isn't as simple as it once was, though. Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE: RDS-A  ) , BP, and Eni (NYSE: E  ) have all requested recently that the Iraqi government reduce its production targets at various fields across the country, which under current production goals would deplete more than half of the country's reserves in 20 years. Furthermore, during Core Laboratories' (NYSE: CLB  ) recent conference call, CEO David Demshur noted that the company has seen a "surprising" amount of increased interest in its reservoir management and production enhancement divisions.

Top 10 Dow Dividend Companies To Watch For 2014: NewLead Holdings Ltd.(NEWL)

NewLead Holdings Ltd. operates as an international shipping company that owns and operates product tankers and dry bulk carriers. It operates in two segments, Wet Operations and Dry Operations. The Wet Operations segment transports various refined petroleum products simultaneously in segregated coated cargo tanks that include gasoline, jet fuel, kerosene, naphtha, and gas oil. The Dry Operations segment involves in transporting and handling bulk cargoes through ownership, operation, and trading of vessels. As of August 2, 2011, the company operated a fleet of 6 double-hull product tankers and 16 dry bulk vessels. The company was formerly known as Aries Maritime Transport Limited and changed its name to NewLead Holdings Ltd. in December 2009. NewLead Holdings Ltd. was incorporated in 2005 and is based in Athens, Greece.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Two months ago, maritime shipping stocks FreeSeas Inc. (NASDAQ:FREE), NewLead Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:NEWL), and DryShips Inc. (NASDAQ:DRYS) were all the rage; traders couldn't get enough of them. The spark for the new strength from DRYS, NEWL, and FREE was a strong - and somewhat surprising - bounce in Baltic Dry Index, which roughly measures the daily charter rate for maritime shipping vessels. It had risen from a low of 698 at the beginning of the year to above 1000 by July to a peak of 2113 in late September. Since these shipping companies had seen a tripling (in less than a year, mind you) of the prices they could charge customers, the rebounding interest in these stocks was certainly understandable. FreeSeas shares more than doubled in value during that time. DryShips nearly did the same. While NewLead Holdings Ltd didn't actually dole out any significant gain, it did draw a lot of new interest during that hot period as a potential "the next one to take off" idea.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

The last few weeks have been, shall we say "interesting" for maritime shipping stocks like FreeSeas Inc. (NASDAQ:FREE), DryShips Inc. (NASDAQ:DRYS), and NewLead Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:NEWL). The strong rise in the Baltic Dry Index - the average daily charter rate of a dry goods vessel - since mid-August (and really since early June) has meant maritime shippers can charge more for their services, and who knows? Maybe they can even turn a profit sometime in the foreseeable future. As a result of that possibility, DRYS gained nearly 100% in a little over a month., NEWL was up as much as 70% at one point in late September, and FREE advanced nearly 300% on the heels of the Baltic Dry Index's runup from 1000 to more than 2000 in just a little over a month.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

To say the last few weeks have been disappointing ones for shareholders of maritime shipping stocks like NewLead Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:NEWL), FreeSeas Inc. (NASDAQ:FREE), or Diana Shipping Inc. (NYSE:DSX) would be an understatement. After a fantastic second half of 2013 for most shipping stocks, the industry has been submerged (metaphorically) since the beginning of 2014. For perspective, DSX gained 32% over the course of the last six months of 2013, bur has fallen 5% since then. NEWL, though a loser all throughout the latter part of last year, has fallen a whopping 13% since 2014 began. FREE has performed about the same, offering glimmers of hope in the latter part of 2013, but popping that bubble in the meantime.

  • [By Daniel Lauchheimer]

Currently, three main companies supply security equipment to the TSA - Safran (SAFRY.PK), Smiths (SMGKF.PK), and Level-3 Holdings (LLL). All three of these companies sell the whole range of their products to the TSA, with an ETD offering included. Recently, however, a new company, Implant Sciences Corporation (IMSC.PK) received approval from the TSA to begin selling their ETD equipment to airport security professionals. This approval has opened the door for IMSC to begin taking some market share away from the more established players in the US and beyond.
