Matula, who is currently a SVP for LiveDeal (LIVE), has a history of association with penny stock failures. An interesting angle is his tie to a lawyer in Las Vegas, Michael Balabon, who purports to have two separate practices, including a bankruptcy/divorce practice and an employment law practice who has acted as Registered Agent for many of these companies. I was unable to reach anyone at either office on several occasions. In any event, Balabon is the registered agent for PLPL. Coincidentally, he served in that role for NVLX as well as well as all of the former subsidiaries and partners the firm used (the new Medical Marijuana Sciences subsidiary too). Recall that the predecessor to PLPL was Diamond Ranch, and Balabon was the RA there as well. Matula has served in I.R. roles for perpetual failures like VelaTel Global (VELA.PK).

However, many of the more important underlying fundamentals of Banco Santander Chile, such as loan growth and core deposits, increased year over year while net provision expenses for consumer loans dropped 3.8% year over year.

Gross output (GO) measures the total output of an economy, including investments made by businesses in order to produce their goods, such as capital outlays on new equipment, raw materials, or other business-to-business transactions. In Structure, Skousen makes the case that modern economists downplay the importance of the business sector in the economy and overstate the importance of consumer spending. He believes that the GDP should not be used as the sole measure of economic activity.

  • [By Mark Salzinger, Editor and Publisher, No-Load Fund Investor]

The former are called General Obligation (GO) bonds, while the latter are generally called revenue bonds. In the old days, GOs were considered safer, because they were backed by the full taxing authority of the issuer. Now, revenue bonds are more in vogue.

For the past several years, Berkshire has contrasted its own cost-free float provided by profitable underwriting against the industry (unimpressive) tendency to lose money on underwriting while generating net returns from investment income. Hot Machinery Companies To Buy Right Now

When it comes to agricultural equipment, it's hard to find a better-known name than Deere (NYSE: DE  ) . With its trademark green-and-yellow tractors and other farm machinery, the company has made the most of its John Deere brand, but after a run-up that sent John Deere stock close to all-time record highs earlier this year, investors wonder if recent weakness in the commodities sector could point to a reversal of fortune for the company.

Recovering from bad weather
Last year, the worst news for Deere came from the weather. Bad drought conditions throughout much of the U.S. led to two consecutive earnings misses during the July and October quarters, as many farmers found themselves without any crops to harvest and therefore didn't need to order equipment from Deere.

Since then, Deere has responded with more positive earnings results in the past two quarters. Yet even in its most recent report, Deere reduced its guidance for full-year-revenue growth by a percentage point, with expectations of just 5% growth in sales for the year.

There's no foolproof way to know the future for Toro (NYSE: TTC  ) or any other company. However, certain clues may help you see potential stumbles before they happen -- and before your stock craters as a result.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Still, shares of Deere have gained 0.2% to $86.08, perhaps thanks to Toro (TTC), which has risen 1.8% to $62.34 after beating earnings forecasts by four cents today.

Stuart Varney took it a step further, mentioning Toro Company (TTC), the maker of many of the snow blowers that have become a common sight across much of America this year. I agreed, adding that Toro is a major manufacturer of lawn and turf maintenance equipment — and because virtually every lawn, park and golf course in America has suffered damage this year, and Toro is well positioned to profit from the repairs.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By WALLSTCHEATSHEET]

Caterpillar provides essential industrial products that fuel infrastructure construction and mining projects in growing countries around the world. The stock has not made much progress in recent years and is now trading near the low end of a range that extends back a few years. Earnings and revenue figures have sent mixed signals to investors who have been pleased with recent earnings reports, regardless. Relative to its peers and sector, Caterpillar has trailed in year-to-date performance by a significant margin. WAIT AND SEE what Caterpillar does this coming quarter.

  • [By Justin Loiseau]

Getting back to the Dow, Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) was among the index's worst performers yesterday. Shares dropped 1.56% as the company continued to reel from a sales and earnings miss earlier this week. Caterpillar openly admitted that its short-term growth is nothing to love (2% this year), but if other better-than-expected natural-resources reports are any evidence, this latest sell-off may simply be the result of over-optimists (read: "China alpha bulls") finally opting out. For mining companies and Caterpillar alike, investors will need to keep a close watch on commodities prices in the coming months, as well as global growth in key expansion areas like China.

  • [By Dan Carroll]

Another manufacturer on the Dow is vaulting higher after Alcoa's earnings hit: Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) shares have gained 3.2% on the day to lead the index higher. Caterpillar has suffered many of the same problems as Alcoa, with waning demand -- particularly from China and Europe, which are experiencing an economic slowdown and a brutal recession, respectively -- hurting the company's near-term outlook. Caterpillar's expectations of firm Chinese growth look lackluster at best now.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By David Smith]

    Flotek Industries (NYSE: FTK  )
The smallest member of the trio, with a market cap of about $815 million, Flotek operates on the services side of the energy sector. As I've previously pointed out to Fools, it also constitutes a rare instance wherein the analysts who monitor the company all accord it strong buy ratings. But with Flotek's share price having risen by more than 40% year to date, it is difficult to contest that unanimous confidence.

Hot Services Companies To Invest In 2014: Vapor Corp (VPCO)

Vapor Corp (Vapor), incorporated in 1987, is engaged in designing, marketing and distributing electronic cigarettes and accessories under the Fifty-One, Krave, VaporX, EZ Smoker, Green Puffer, Americig, Fumre Hookah Stix and Smoke Star brands. Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes, are battery-powered products that enable users to inhale nicotine vapor without smoke, tar, ash, or carbon monoxide. Electronic cigarettes look like traditional cigarettes and consists of three functional components: a mouthpiece, which is a small plastic cartridge that contains a liquid nicotine solution; a heating element that vaporizes the liquid nicotine so that it can be inhaled; and the electronics, which include: a lithium-ion battery, an airflow sensor, a microchip controller and an light emitting diode (LED), which illuminates to indicate use. When a user draws air through the electronic cigarette, the air flow is detected by a sensor, which activates a heating element that vaporizes the solution stored in the mouthpiece/cartridge, the solution is then vaporized and it is this vapor that is inhaled by the user. The cartridge contains either a nicotine solution or a nicotine free solution, either of which may be flavored. The Company offers rechargeable and disposable electronic cigarettes in two varieties: a two-piece unit, which the Company markets under its DUO product line; and a three-piece unit, which the Company markets under its TRIO product line.

The DUO

The DUO's 2-part construction (battery component and cartridge) features a disposable all-in-one atomized cartridge (also known as a cartomizer). This cartomizer is replaced when the nicotine or nicotine free solution is depleted from use. The all-in-one configuration eliminates the need for maintenance of a separate atomizer and maintains consistent performance of the e-cigarette over time.

The TRIO

The TRIO's 3-part construction (battery component, atomizer, and filter cartridge) features a separate atom! izer from the cartridge; the atomizer is reused and requires separate maintenance over its useful life. Replacement atomizers are available for sale and are easily serviceable by the user. In the TRIO, the only component that needs to be routinely replaced is the refill cartridge (either with or without nicotine).

The Company's electronic cigarettes are sold in kits. In addition to kits the Company sells replacement batteries, replacement mouthpieces that contain the liquid solution and atomizer, for its two-piece configurations as well as mouthpieces with the liquid solution and separate atomizers for its three-piece units. In addition to the Company's electronic cigarette products the Company sells an assortment of accessories, including chargers and simple and fashionable cases. The Company also offers refill cartridges and accessories for its electronic cigarettes. The Company's refill cartridges consist of assorted flavors and nicotine levels (including cartridges without nicotine).

The Company competes with Altria Group, Inc. and Reynolds American Inc.,

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By John Udovich]

Last week, I talked about small cap electronic cigarette stocks Vapor Corp (OTCMKTS: VPCO) and Hop-On Inc (OTCMKTS: HPNN) as being among the last of the e-Cigstocks not controlled by ig Tobacco, but Victory Electronic Cigarettes Corp (OTCMKTS: ECIG), mCig Inc (OTCBB: MCIG) and American Heritage International (OTCBB: AHII)are alsopositioning themselves or their technology to exploit opportunities in the e-Cig market or even inmarijuana or cannabis. Last year, industry experts were already saying thatUS retail sales of e-cigarettes could reach $1 billion for the yearfor roughly1% of the country's cigarette market. That number might appear small, but its more than double 2012 salesas sales increasinglymove off the Internet and into more mainstream retailers thanks to their positioning as aealthieralternative to smoking.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Josh Arnold]

PharMerica Corporation (PMC) is a pharmacy services company that operates in several segments in the US. The company offers services to healthcare facilities, pharmacy management services and specialty infusion to patients outside of hospitals. PMC's primary customers are assisted living centers, hospitals, and other long term care facilities. The company services just under 200 locations in 45 states in the US and produces about $1.7 billion in annual revenue. With shares near the bottom of their 52 week range following a nasty selloff, is there any value in PMC or is it a classic trap? I'll argue here that PMC's structural tailwinds for earnings including demographics and consumer preference shifts will increase PMC's ability to convert revenue into profit and drive the stock higher.

10 Best Beverage Stocks To Own For 2014

In the grand scheme of things, a drop of 32 points for the Dow Jones Industrials (DJINDICES: ^DJI  ) isn't really a big deal, especially when it comes on the heels of a sharp move higher that had resulted in several consecutive record highs for the average. But when the drop comes despite strong economic data, it raises concerns about just how much further the bull market can run without a significant correction. Nervousness about testimony from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke tomorrow also probably created some selling pressure, especially given the dramatic declines that the Fed inspired last month in discussing the potential for tapering its quantitative easing program.

Two consumer stocks led the declines, with Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO  ) falling 1.9% and Disney (NYSE: DIS  ) posting a 1.4% decline. For Coke, earnings were to blame for the decline, as the company continued to see weak sales volumes in North America and missed analysts' expectations for overall revenue. The challenge the soft-drink giant faces is dealing with changing trends in beverages, as its namesake soda brands haven't fared as well as non-sparkling waters, juices, and other drinks lately. Add to that increased pressure to produce healthier offerings, and Coke has some work to do to adapt to changing conditions.

Cott (COT) is engaged in the production of beverages on behalf of retailers and distributors. This stock closed up 4.5% to $8.75 a share in Thursday's trading session.

    Thursday's Range: $8.29-$8.84

    52-Week Range: $7.24-$11.25

    Thursday's Volume: 1.82 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 466,884

From a technical perspective, COT jumped higher here right above its 50-day moving average of $8.14 with monster upside volume. This stock has been uptrending strong for the last month and change, with shares moving higher from its low of $7.39 to its intraday high of $8.84. During that move, shares of COT have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of COT within range of triggering a major breakout trade. That trade will hit if COT manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $8.84 to $9 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in COT as long as it's trending above its 50-day at $8.14 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 466,884 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then COT will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $9.50 to 10.25. Any high-volume move above $10.25 will then give COT a chance to re-fill its previous gap-down zone from May that stared near $11.

Also interesting is that the duration of rising rate environments is distinctly shorter after 1982. The average duration declines to 14 months from 40 months prior to 1982. A possible explanation could be changes in the monetary mechanism influencing interest rates. In 1982, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) first referenced a targeted federal funds rate.7

  • [By CanadianValue]

Former Philadelphia Fed President Edward Boehne elegantly described the approach at a Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting in late 1989:

ow, sooner or later, we will have a recession. I don think anybody around the table wants a recession or is seeking one, but sooner or later we will have one. If in that recession we took advantage of the anti-inflation (impetus) and we got inflation down from 4 1/2 percent to 3 percent, and then in the next expansion we were able to keep inflation from accelerating, sooner or later there will be another recession out there. And so, if we could bring inflation down from cycle to cycle just as we let it build up from cycle to cycle, that would be considerable progress over what wee done in other periods in history./p>
