What:Shares ofUltra Petroleum (NYSE: UPL ) , an independent U.S. producer of oil and natural gas, fell $1.71 today, good for almost an 11% loss. The stock is down almost 40% since Nov. 1, and more than 52% since oil prices peaked in mid-June:
UPL data by YCharts
However, today's big drop was driven by falling natural gas prices. The Henry Hub spot price for wholesale natural gas fell more than 9% to $3.144 today, approaching a two-year low.
So what:Natural gas is Ultra Petroleum's biggest business, making up more than 90% of production, and nearly three-fourths of total sales. While Ultra is one of the lowest-cost producers, and should be able to weather these low prices, the market's reaction is to the so-far unseasonably warm winter, which has resulted in much lower use of natural gas for heating than anticipated. In short, some are fearing a market oversupply.

CVS Caremark (CVS) has found the perfect prescription for stock market gains after reporting earnings results this morning.Associated Press
For the quarter ended Dec. 31, CVS reported adjusted EPS of $1.12, up from 96 cents a year ago and ahead of analyst expectations of $1.11. Revenue rose to $32.8 billion from $31.4 a year prior and forecasts for sales of $32.6 billion. CVS also disclosed that it opened 60 new retail drugstores and closed one during the period.
Last week, CVS made headlines on the announcement that it would end tobacco sales and the market reacted accordingly. In a Barron Take, Teresa Rivas wrote, ith the number of U.S. smokers on the decline and regulation on the rise, CVS will likely more than make up for lost sales with public goodwill and a boost to its health-care brand. It also gets first mover advantage on a ban that may eventually have been forced on it./p>
Raymond James analyst John Ransom notes that CVS has a healthy future:
First-quarter 2014 adjusted EPS guidance was actually raised to $1.03-$1.06 (up seven cents at the midpoint), suggesting better-than-expected near-term trends versus prior outlook. Net-net, fourth quarter capped another solid year out of CVS, with today stock price reaction likely less tied to the report itself and more focused on the…tobacco headwind offsets as well as initial comments with regard to the 2015 selling season and the retail competitive landscape (promotional activity high?).
Shares of CVS have advanced 2.7% to $68.74 at 3:0 p.m., trailing Walgreen’s (WAG) 5.3% rise to $63.87 but besting Rite Aid’s (RAD) 1.5% gain to $5.72.

CVS has been a steady performer through the years. It also a company that takes care of its shareholders and has a strong history of beating earnings. These trends are likely to remain in place over the long haul. As far as CVS vs. Walgreen, Walgreen has outperformed CVS by a wide margin on an all-time basis. However, in recent years, the stocks have delivered similar performances. Therefore, it a wash.

kurhan/Shutterstock The maker of a line of diet supplements sold at the nation's largest pharmacies with the false promise that the pills would magically make users slender (they didn't) was banned -- at least, for now -- from selling weight loss products under a just-finalized agreement, the Federal Trade Commission said on Friday. HealthyLife Sciences and its principal sold Healthe Trim supplements with the claim you could "get high school skinny." Apparently, it only worked as advertised if its users had never gained weight after graduation. John Matthew Dwyer III (aka Matthew Dyer), the co-founder of the Atlanta-based company, agreed to stay out of the weight-loss industry under the terms of the settlement of deceptive advertising charges. Dwyer claimed the pills had ingredients that combined to burn fat, speed up the metabolism and suppress appetite. No Penalty, No Restitution The FTC said the company took in about $76 million between 2009 and 2013. Healthe Trim supplements were sold at CVS (CVS), Walgreens (WAG) and at GNC (GNC) stores. It cost consumers who bought into the spiel $50 to $65 for a month's supply, the FTC said. The key to the sales were customer testimonials featuring claims that, for example, using the pills helped one user to drop 54 pounds and go from a size 12 dress to a size 2. "Losing weight is rarely easy, and it would be a miracle if a pill made it so," Jessica Rich, director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in a statement. "Consumers should be skeptical when a product like this one claims to make weight loss easy." The company itself (if it continues to operate without Dwyer) is barred from making a host of what the FTC describes as "scientifically infeasible" claims about its supplements. And it can no longer make any weight-loss-related claims at all about them until it has in hand two legitimate, scientifically rigorous human clinical-trial studies to support its statements. Unlike many settlements of this
