I always find it very interesting to see what long-term investors are selling in a given quarter. Kahn Brothers lightened up on many financials that have shot up and now trade above book value. The firm sold out of Flushing Financial (FFIC), TCF Financial (TCB) and Dime Community Bank (DCOM). Khan apparently shares my views on the large-cap drug stocks, easing up on both Pfizer (PFE) and Bristol Meyers (BMY) over the summer. Khan Brothers also sold the last of the Travelers shares (TRV) it has owned since 2008 at more than twice the purchase price.

Shares of TCF Financial Corporation (NYSE: TCB) have recorded a year-to-date return of 26.6%. Impressive organic growth, balance sheet repositioning and strong capital deployment activities of the company were primary factors behind the growth. However, we are not so optimistic about these positives translating into further price appreciation down the road as there will likely be significant pressure on its top line.

- [By Matt Thalman]
In the following video, Fool contributor Matt Thalman discusses a few different metrics and areas investors should focus their attention on when looking at Marriott's (NYSE: MAR ) upcoming earnings report.
- [By Jim Royal]
Second, Ryman lowered its earnings projection for the year and won't be able to realize as quickly the synergies from its deal with Marriott (NYSE: MAR ) . That's not great, but it's mitigated now almost completely by the price you're paying. Even at the low end of management's 2013 guidance, the stock is trading at less than 9 times adjusted FFO. At the high end, it's a shade over 8 times. That's extraordinarily cheap for such premier assets.

The merger between the two companies had been in the works since September, but hit many a bump on the road. The two major obstacles in the path were the Chinese regulations and the ongoing tax investigation regarding Nokia Indian plant, operating in Chennai. While China green-lighted the deal easily, the Indian authorities were less obliging. The end result is that the Indian facility was not a part of the acquisitions and will be retained by Nokia. Although Nokia has not announced any conclusive plans, the fact that it offered its 7500+ Indian workers early retirement scheme suggests that the plant may soon be shut down. Also, noticeably absent from the terms of the merger was the tate of the artSouth Korean plant in Masan. The deal closed for $7.5 billion. As previously decided, Nokia former CEO Stephen Elop will be reporting to Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella and will be appointed executive vice president of Microsoft Devices Group.
